Tension in Ishiagu as Victims Demand Justice Over Fabian Okonkwo’s Murder
More than ten members of the Umunkpumente Kindred in Ihie community, Ishiagu, have appealed to Governor Francis Nwifuru, the state police commissioner, and the DSS to arrest and prosecute those responsible for killing Fabian Okonkwo. The kindred said they were attacked during a meeting at the late Okonkwo’s home. Okonkwo was shot dead on April 16 after receiving threats over plans to bury an in-law on his property. Community leaders initially blocked his burial, but traditional approval was later granted. After petitioning the governor and the police over threats and the unsolved murder, the community president-general and his secretary were arrested. Kindred members say they then faced fresh attacks, vandalism of property, and intimidation by rival youths. The kindred is calling on security agencies to restore order and break the cycle of violence. Ebonyi police confirm arrests in the case and say calm has returned to the area.
