Agbor Train Derailment Kills Four, Including Infant, Out of 482 Onboard
On June 8, the Federal Ministry of Transportation confirmed that four people died when a train derailed in Agbor, Delta State. The victims included two adult women, one adult man and an infant passenger. Preliminary reports indicate four coaches capsized and one derailed. A total of 482 people were on board: 442 passengers and 40 crew members, security personnel and service providers. Rescue and evacuation wrapped up by 6:30 pm. Twenty-four people suffered serious injuries, several others were lightly wounded, and one NRC staff member remains in stable condition after treatment for a traumatic limb injury. Among those on board were Senator Ede Dafinone and former Delta State Secretary to the Government Patrick Ukah. Authorities have retrieved the full passenger manifest, launched a full investigation and pledged support to affected families. The ministry offered its deepest condolences and prayers for a swift recovery of the injured.
