Court Relocates El-Rufai to DSS Custody Amid Family’s Media Campaign
The prosecution told a Federal High Court in Abuja that former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai was moved from ICPC to DSS custody after alleged media attacks and public controversy. Prosecutors said relatives livestreamed claims that he was denied food and access to family. Courts heard that actions by El-Rufai’s family and supporters, including public criticism of bail conditions, risked undermining public confidence in the judiciary. Defence counsel denied involvement and promised to advise restraint. Prosecutors presented a flash drive with a 43-minute Arise News interview in which El-Rufai said he received intercepted phone calls involving the National Security Adviser. Investigators confirmed the call’s authenticity through the NSA and ICPC chair. Evidence from journalists and legal advisers was admitted. The judge warned against bringing social media narratives into the courtroom. Proceedings resume on June 22 and 23.
