AE-FUNAI Awards Scholarships to Winners of Ikwo Secondary School Essay Contest
The Centre for Extension and Community Services at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike organised a one-day essay competition for secondary students from five Ikwo communities. The exercise highlighted the importance of education for both boys and girls and challenged common gender biases. Dr. Chinyere Nkama explained that education builds character and drives societal progress, quoting Nelson Mandela on its transformative power. Top performers will receive scholarships covering up to two academic sessions at AE-FUNAI. First place earns two sessions, while second and third places receive one session plus a ₦50,000 consolation prize each. Prof. Celestine Affiukwa urged students to seize the opportunity and contribute positively to their communities. Ezaka Ferdinand Ifeanyi of Urban Community Secondary School, Ndufu-Echara, was crowned the overall winner.
