Katsina Police Bust 7-Member Kidnap Syndicate, Rescue 8-Year-Old and Recover ₦7.5m
The Katsina State Police have dismantled a seven-man kidnapping ring responsible for abducting an eight-year-old boy in Katsina Metropolis. The syndicate seized the child on 13 May while he was returning from an Islamic school. Operatives of the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit acted on intelligence after the kidnappers demanded a ₦50 million ransom. Following negotiations, the boy’s family paid ₦17 million and secured his release. On 23 May, police arrested six suspects and recovered a Peugeot 307, a motorcycle, several mobile phones and ₦7.5 million in ransom cash. Nura Aliyu, 39, a neighbor identified as the mastermind, was among those detained. One accomplice remains at large and a manhunt is ongoing. The state Commissioner of Police commended the swift action and assured the public of the command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and violent crime. The suspects will be charged in court once investigations conclude.
