Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralytic

One day, Jesus was teaching in a crowded house. Religious teachers and law experts had gathered to listen. Four friends carried a paralyzed man on a mat. They could not reach Jesus because of the crowd. Determined, they made a hole in the roof and lowered the man down before Jesus. Seeing their faith, Jesus said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.” The teachers murmured, “Who can forgive sins but God alone?” Jesus knew their thoughts. To show his authority, he told the man to get up, take his mat, and go home. Instantly, the man stood, picked up his bed, and went home praising God. All who witnessed it were amazed and thanked God.
