Federal High Court Sentences Five to 25 Years for Terrorism Offences
The Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted five men, including one Nigerien national, to 25-year jail terms each after they pleaded guilty to terrorism charges brought by the Department of State Services. Prosecutors tendered evidence showing the suspects jointly conveyed 15 AK-103 rifles and 1,434 rounds of live ammunition from Niger’s Diffa region into Nigeria for a Boko Haram member. A Volkswagen car used in the arms operation was also ordered forfeited to the Federal Republic. Justice Binta Nyako found Yusuf Mohammed (aka Bature), Goni Ibrahim Bindi (aka Goni Mutuwa), Sani Tulur (aka Danladi), Mubarak Ibrahim and Musa Alhaji Adamu (aka Gado Banufe) guilty under the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022. Sentences will run concurrently from their dates of arrest, and all exhibits have been forfeited to the federal government.
