FIFA Invites Iran to Zurich for Final 2026 World Cup Preparations

The meeting will focus on final preparations and outstanding issues ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Iran’s participation had been uncertain amid rising Middle East tensions, but FIFA president Gianni Infantino has since confirmed that Iran will compete in the tournament alongside hosts the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Diplomatic hurdles have previously kept Iran’s delegation away from FIFA events, including a disputed visit to Canada. FFIRI president Mehdi Taj is now seeking direct talks with FIFA leadership to address administrative and diplomatic concerns. On the pitch, Iran is drawn in Group G with New Zealand, Belgium, and Egypt. Their opening match is set for June 15 in Los Angeles against New Zealand. This Zurich visit aims to clear the way for a smooth campaign.
