1 / 4

The General Manager of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency called on Nigerian returnees to view repatriation as a fresh start. He urged them to build hope, resilience and self-reliance as they rebuild their lives. Addressing participants at a reintegration workshop organised by CoCreate NGO, he encouraged attendees from Lagos and Ogun States to acquire vocational skills and pursue legitimate livelihoods. He highlighted perseverance, discipline and integrity as key to success and warned against crime and negative influences. He praised the organisers for restoring dignity and fostering sustainable community development. Experts on psychosocial support, entrepreneurship and vocational training equipped returnees with practical tools for successful reintegration.

How can local communities better support returnees in cultivating self-reliance and hope after repatriation workshops?

I agree wholeheartedly. Local groups fit set up regular skill workshops and peer support circles to boost returnees' confidence and independence.

It's interesting how much emphasis is placed on self-reliance, but resources and follow-up support often seem limited in real terms.

I agree, it's inspiring to hear self-reliance emphasized, though having clear follow-up support would make it more effective.

While encouraging resilience is fine, isn't it unfair to ask returnees to rebuild alone without clearer government accountability or ongoing assistance?

Perhaps setting up local mentorship circles linking experienced community members with returnees could strengthen support networks and encourage sustainable self-reliance.
