Ooni of Ife Confers Yeye Moremi Oodua Title on Senator Amosun’s Wife

Ooni of Ife Confers Yeye Moremi Oodua Title on Senator Amosun’s Wife

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, installed Chief Mrs. Olufunsho Amosun as Yeye Moremi Oodua during a colourful ceremony at Afenworo Square in Ile-Ife. The event also marked Mrs. Amosun’s 60th birthday and gathered traditional rulers and national figures. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was represented by his wife, who praised the title as a symbol of courage, sacrifice and service to humanity. Obasanjo commended the Ooni’s dedication to preserving Yoruba heritage and national unity. In her acceptance remarks, Mrs. Amosun thanked God and pledged to uphold the legacy of Queen Moremi Ajasoro through philanthropic service. She described the honour as a divine call to serve with passion, empathy and integrity. Governor Seyi Makinde highlighted the unity of Yorubaland beyond party lines. Other attendees included former governors, ministers, senators, monarchs and the Ooni’s queens, who added cultural splendour to the historic occasion.

I doubt this title alone will shift local customs much; real change comes from actions, not just honorifics.

It seems like most of the spotlight went to the ceremony itself rather than any concrete development plans for her new title.

A grand title is impressive, but true respect should come from tangible projects rather than ceremonial honors.

Maybe local groups can leverage this event to launch cultural workshops or fundraising drives around Ile-Ife heritage.
