Enugu Police Rescue Kidnap Victim from Fake Job Scam, Arrest Suspect
Enugu State Police Command has rescued a man who was lured online with a fake job offer, abducted and forced to pay a ransom of ₦500,000. During the operation, officers arrested 27-year-old Aniagboso Ugochukwu, a member of the criminal syndicate. Preliminary investigation revealed the gang had earlier abducted another victim on April 1, extorting ₦100,000 before release. They advertise fictitious vacancies on social media, meet interested candidates at Eke Obinagu, Emene, then transport them to a secluded hideout in Akpuoga Nike to demand ransom under threat of crude weapons. Police spokesperson SP Daniel Ndukwe confirmed the suspect’s confession and said he is assisting detectives to apprehend fleeing accomplices, recover ransom funds and dismantle the network. Members of the public are urged to verify online job offers carefully and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
