Senate President Blocks Probe into Alleged PFIPC Fake DG Appointment

Senate President Blocks Probe into Alleged PFIPC Fake DG Appointment

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has once again shut down efforts to launch a legislative inquiry into the supposed Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council. Senators had sought to investigate Adeniyi Adeyemi’s alleged use of a forged appointment letter to present himself as PFIPC director-general. Akpabio argued that a court case and an ICPC investigation ordered by President Tinubu have already taken over the matter. He warned that further Senate action would be premature and risk prejudicing ongoing legal processes. Senator Suleiman Kawu insisted the National Assembly has a constitutional duty to conduct its own oversight, regardless of executive probes. Adeyemi is facing charges of forgery, fraud and impersonation and is due to enter his plea on September 30.

It's striking that action stops just when allegations of a forged appointment letter surface against Adeyemi and PFIPC's legitimacy comes into question.

Citizens and civil society should monitor committee appointments closely and demand transparent records on any future PFIPC leadership inquiries.
