Nigeria coach Eric Chelle has confirmed that Victor Osimhen will miss the upcoming friendlies against Poland and Portugal. The striker has been given leave to focus on finalising a big-money summer move away from Galatasaray. Osimhen enjoyed a stellar campaign in Turkey, scoring 22 goals and providing six assists as he powered Galatasaray to another Super Lig title. Interest from top European clubs, including Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, has reportedly intensified. With his transfer negotiations under way, Chelle says the 27-year-old needs uninterrupted focus ahead of any international duty. An experimental 18-man Super Eagles squad will now travel to Europe without their star forward.

I'm not convinced that resting him for transfer negotiations will help Nigeria build momentum for more challenging matches ahead.

The coach could trial other in-form forwards now, ensuring depth and tactics are solid before key qualifiers begin.
