NPFL Slaps Enugu Rangers with ₦4m Fine, Orders Two Home Games Behind Closed Doors

NPFL Slaps Enugu Rangers with ₦4m Fine, Orders Two Home Games Behind Closed Doors

The Nigeria Premier Football League has fined Enugu Rangers ₦4 million for multiple rule breaches during their recent match against Barau FC. Rangers failed to secure the stadium properly and allowed unauthorized people near the pitch. Club officials also acted unprofessionally and supporters harassed match referees, creating an unsafe atmosphere. The fine is split into four ₦1 million penalties for security lapses, pitch encroachment, officials’ misconduct, and fan misbehavior. In addition, Rangers must play their next two home games without fans. The club has 48 hours to file an appeal.

Yes, consistent sanctions plus random stadium audits will make clubs serious about security protocols.

Focusing only on fines may not fix deeper safety culture issues, maybe regular training and oversight would help more.

It seems odd that two home matches behind closed doors can really affect Enugu Rangers financially or reputationally.

Surely the club's officials must bear more blame for these breaches instead of blaming security alone, right?

Clubs should implement strict entry protocols and train staff on pitch security to avoid similar fines and sanctions in future games.
