Tinubu Hails Gowon’s Memoir as Blueprint for Nigeria’s Unity
President Bola Tinubu has described veteran statesman Gen. Yakubu Gowon’s new memoir as a vital guide for Nigeria’s future. Speaking at the launch in Abuja, he praised Gowon’s post-civil war reconciliation and the founding of the NYSC as pillars of national unity. Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the president urged wide circulation of the book to preserve Nigeria’s historical memory. He warned that societies without memory risk division and uncertainty. Tinubu also highlighted Gowon’s role in establishing ECOWAS. He stressed the need for regional cooperation against insecurity and economic disruption and called for policies that build trust, inclusion and shared citizenship.
