Ajayi Equals Nigerian Record with 9.84 Win Over World Champion at London Diamond League
Nigeria’s 21-year-old sprint star raced to victory in the men’s 100m at the London Diamond League on 18 July. He clocked 9.84 seconds to match his season’s best while fending off reigning world champion Oblique Seville. Seville finished second in 9.87, and Team GB’s Romell Grave took third in 9.97 at the London National Stadium. “I came out and did what I had to do,” Ajayi said afterward. “Once my start clicked, I knew the race was mine.” He also confirmed plans to compete at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow later this month.
