Amaechi: I, Not Tinubu, Was the Architect of Buhari’s Victory

Rotimi Amaechi says President Tinubu’s claim to have made Muhammadu Buhari president overlooks the wider coalition behind the 2015 win. Amaechi recalls leading the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and serving as director-general of Buhari’s campaign. He says he organised political mobilisation across the country while Tinubu built alliances. He explains that as a serving minister under Buhari he could not openly challenge Tinubu’s narrative at the time. "Not only was I the DG of the campaign, but everybody will bear witness that I did all the battle," Amaechi said in a recent interview. Reflecting on the APC’s performance since 2015, he adds that the administration achieved change in some areas but fell short in others.
