Tinubu Approves N15bn for New Police Academy Campus in Ogun

Tinubu Approves N15bn for New Police Academy Campus in Ogun

President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a Police Academy campus in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State. A N15 billion take-off grant will fund priority infrastructure, student accommodation and core training assets. The intervention fund is drawn from the 2026 TETFund allocation. Under the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act 2021, this new site expands the Wudil campus into multiple locations across the country. A high-level meeting of the Police Affairs and Education ministries, the Inspector-General of Police and the National Universities Commission recommended Erinja for its capacity and quality assurance. President Tinubu says the expansion will strengthen policing education, institutional governance and national security.

True, money helps, but I doubt funding alone fixes training gaps without proper staff and facilities upgrades.

It's notable that Tinubu's N15bn allocation focuses on infrastructure and accommodation, two areas that often lag behind training needs.

Surely setting up a campus is positive, but maybe investing in existing police colleges first could yield quicker improvements.

To maximize impact, the government should involve local contractors and set clear timelines for dormitory completion and equipment delivery.
