Gunmen Strike at UNIBEN Gate: Student Killed, Others Injured
At about 5pm on Sunday, May 10, armed assailants in a white Mercedes-Benz intercepted another Mercedes carrying three students as they exited the UNIBEN main gate at Ugbowo. The attackers opened fire and fled, killing Alexander Omogiate and wounding two other students and a female passerby, Dorathy Ubah. Victims were rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital for treatment. Edo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the suspects. Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika condemned the attack and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. He warned criminal elements operating near university campuses to vacate the state. Local authorities and UNIBEN management are on high alert as investigations continue.
