Lawyer Urges Okpebholo to Turn 4,800 Edo Aide Roles Into Digital Enterprise Scheme

An Abuja-based lawyer and human rights activist has urged Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo to convert the reported appointment of about 4,800 political aides into a technology-focused youth empowerment scheme. He argued that Edo should reduce reliance on conventional political patronage and invest in digital skills, entrepreneurship and job creation. He proposed an Edo Silicon Technology and Innovation Valley in Benin City, with innovation hubs across the state’s three senatorial districts. The proposed programme would support training in software engineering, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, fintech, robotics, digital agriculture and renewable-energy technology. It would also provide mentorship, internet access, seed funding, investor links and support for startups to reach global markets. He further called for an eight-year digital economy and innovation plan with clear targets for youth training, startup incubation, jobs, private investment and digital exports.
