APC Women in Kwara Urge Party to Appoint Female Deputy Governor and Speaker

APC Women in Kwara Urge Party to Appoint Female Deputy Governor and Speaker

Hon. Mopelola Abdulmalik Bashir has appealed to APC leaders in Kwara State to reward women’s loyalty by conceding the offices of Deputy Governor and Speaker of the State Assembly to qualified female members. She noted that no woman secured a ticket in the recent National Assembly primaries and argued this is an opportunity to strengthen APC’s reputation as a gender-inclusive party. Mopelola praised Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s record on women’s empowerment, saying his administration has set a national example through deliberate policies that appoint and empower women at strategic levels. She urged party leaders to view this as more than symbolism. Appointing women to these top roles would honour their grassroots mobilisation and cement the governor’s legacy of inclusive governance.

It's interesting that despite their loyalty no woman won a ticket for the National Assembly, yet APC women still demand top offices.

APC leadership should set clear merit-based criteria and mentorship programs to prepare qualified women for deputy governor or speaker positions in Kwara.
