18-year-old Jailed for Life After Killing Mother and Bragging Online
Tristan Roberts, 18, was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to murdering his mother, Angela Shellis, in October 2025. He held her captive in their home for over four hours before attacking her with a hammer and leaving her body at Morfa Nature Park. Police reviewed CCTV footage showing Roberts returning alone to the park after the attack. He also posted chilling messages on Discord, boasting about beating his mother and describing how he smashed her skull. Ms Shellis’s sister, Sarah Gunther, paid tribute to a devoted mum whose kindness and fierce love shaped her family’s lives. She said Angela’s spirit and laughter will live on in every memory they share. Judge Rhys Rowlands called the killing “truly dreadful” and noted that Roberts had “revelled in the control” he held over his mother. He must serve a minimum of 22½ years before being eligible for parole.
