Akure Youths Chase Igbo Community Leader from Deji’s Palace Over Alleged Disrespect

Akure Youths Chase Igbo Community Leader from Deji’s Palace Over Alleged Disrespect — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Akure, the capital of Ondo State, went into uproar after a clash between local youths and Igbo indigenes. Tension erupted when the Deji of Akure objected to the Eze-Ndigbo entering the palace wearing his crown. The dispute followed the installation of an Igbo market chairman, which the monarch deemed inappropriate. At the palace, chiefs and youths ordered the Eze-Ndigbo to remove his crown and later suspended his title. In response, a group of Igbo residents marched to demand a reversal but were driven out by the youths. The Eze-Ndigbo insists he honoured the Deji’s invitation, showed proper deference, and never intended any disrespect.
