Delta Police Detains Officer Over Effurun Shooting Death
The Delta State Police Command has condemned the killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi in Effurun on April 26, 2026. Officers arrested him for allegedly waybilling a parcel containing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition. ASP Nuhu Usman, who led the operation, discharged his firearm in clear breach of police procedures. He was immediately arrested by the Area Commander and transferred to the State Headquarters in Asaba for questioning. The officer has since been moved to Force Headquarters in Abuja to face the Force Disciplinary Committee. The Command emphasizes its commitment to professionalism, human rights and accountability. The Commissioner of Police offers condolences to the victim’s family and calls on the public to remain calm as due process unfolds.
