EFCC’s Forfeiture Bid on Disputed Abuja Plot Sparks Outrage Over Private Claims
Two women, Colleen Mero Yesufu and Mrs Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac, both claim ownership of Plot 4022 in Guzape, Abuja. Yet no court has finally decided who holds title. Despite a Federal High Court order to maintain the pre-dispute status quo, EFCC operatives remain in Rebecca’s home and have cut off her water, electricity and cooking gas. EFCC’s own motion seeks a “final order forfeiting [the property] for the benefit of the nominal complainants,” including Colleen Mero Yesufu. The Advance Fee Fraud Act clearly states that forfeited assets vest in the Federal Government, not private parties. No judgment has yet confirmed Colleen’s ownership or extinguished Rebecca’s interest. Rebecca remains unable to cook, bathe or preserve food. Her health and dignity are at risk. The EFCC must explain why it treats one private claimant as a “victim” before any court determines title. The federal agency must restore utilities, respect the High Court’s order and allow the judicial process to decide who really owns Plot 4022.
