Okocha Says He Still Pays His Brother Royalties for the ‘Jay-Jay’ Name
Former Super Eagles captain Austin Okocha says his famous “Jay-Jay” nickname originally belonged to his older brother. He explained that several people around his family and neighbourhood were called Austin, so people began identifying him as “Austin Jay-Jay’s brother.” The name eventually stuck. Okocha later added Jay-Jay to his passport because many Europeans struggled to pronounce Augustine. Speaking on a podcast, he joked that he still pays his brother royalties for taking the name and its good-luck value.
