North vs South: Nigeria’s Leadership Tenure from 1960 to 2027
I present a detailed breakdown of Nigeria’s leaders from independence to 2027. The chart covers military heads of state, prime ministers, civilian presidents, and interim governments. I created this to counter claims that the North has had limited leadership since 1999. It includes the parliamentary era (1960–1966) so Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and Nnamdi Azikiwe are counted. Projections for Bola Tinubu’s term extend to May 2027 for balance. The North held power for about 45.9 years (62.6%), while the South led for 27.5 years (37.4%). These figures reveal the true balance of leadership in our history.
