Senegal’s PM Defends Tough Anti-Gay Law, Accuses West of Imposing Homosexuality
Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko told lawmakers that Western powers are trying to force homosexuality on African societies. He spoke in defense of new penalties against same-sex relations. The legislation doubles prison terms for “acts against nature” from five to ten years. It also sets three to seven years for anyone who promotes or funds same-sex relationships. International rights groups say the law violates basic freedoms and targets vulnerable communities. Sonko rejects these claims, arguing the measures reflect Senegalese values and national sovereignty.
