Climate-Smart Farming Skills Reach 135,000 Nigerian Smallholder Farmers
ActionAid Nigeria has equipped over 135,000 smallholder farmers and youths—mostly women—with climate-resilient farming skills across multiple states. This intervention is part of the Strategic Partnerships for Agroecology and Climate Justice (SPAC) project. At a national town hall in Abuja, the Country Director highlighted how secure land access underpins resilience and sustainable livelihoods. Communities and institutions have allocated land for agroecology model farms. Examples include three hectares in Akoko North-East LGA, land in Ibusa, and a combined 17 hectares across several LGAs in Jigawa. Women farmers in Delta also accessed more than 44 acres through local engagement. Despite these gains, challenges remain: competing land uses, poor infrastructure, long distances to farms, and bureaucratic hurdles. Stakeholders are urging policy reforms to ensure equitable land tenure and drive rural economic growth.
