Serving NYSC Member Beaten to Death by Vigilantes in Benue LGA

A serving NYSC member was allegedly beaten to death by a local vigilante group in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State. The deceased, identified as Ben Agir, had returned from his service in Gombe on a short break with only weeks to go. Vigilante members reportedly arrested him late on April 19, mistaking him for a motorcycle thief. He was beaten severely before he could identify himself or show his ID. He was rushed to a hospital after losing consciousness but was confirmed dead on arrival. The Buruku Local Government Chairman condemned the act as unfortunate and avoidable. All suspects have been arrested and handed over to the police. Vigilante activities in the area have also been suspended pending new regulatory measures.
