Muñoz’s Second-Half Strike Sends Colombia into World Cup Round of 16

Muñoz’s Second-Half Strike Sends Colombia into World Cup Round of 16

Colombia booked their place in the World Cup round of 16 with a 1-0 win over DR Congo in Guadalajara. A second-half goal from Daniel Muñoz lifted Colombia to six points and top spot in Group K. The victory secures a return to the knockout stage after they missed out on Qatar 2022. Colombia dominated early possession and tested goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi with efforts from Muñoz, James Rodríguez and Luis Díaz. Mpasi made several key saves but could not keep out the decisive strike.

Colombia looked solid but keeping a clean sheet against DR Congo doesn't guarantee similar success against traditional football powerhouses.

I'm not convinced a single second-half strike says much about Colombia's depth; they'll need more consistency to go far in the knockout rounds.

Focusing on set-piece defense and transitioning quickly after scoring will be key for Colombia to maintain this momentum in the round of 16.
