Oyo Gives Residents One Month to Provide Waste Bins Before Enforcement
Oyo State has given residents, property owners and businesses one month to provide suitable waste bins or face enforcement from September 1, 2026. The directive applies to households, residential buildings, shops, plazas and other commercial premises. Bin capacity must match the size of the property, number of occupants and volume of waste produced. The government also requires residents and businesses to use only accredited private waste collectors and remain up to date on monthly evacuation fees. Inspectors will check for waste bins, payment evidence and clean surroundings during enforcement visits. Residents with collection issues or questions about approved operators have been advised to contact the state waste management authority or the Ministry of Environment's environmental health department.
