UNIZIK Governing Council Ratifies Seven Key Appointments

UNIZIK Governing Council Ratifies Seven Key Appointments

The Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has approved seven new officers to fill vacancies at the University Library and six directorates. The appointments took effect on April 17, 2026, for a five-year tenure. They include a new University Librarian and directors for Medical Services, Works Services, Procurement, Physical Planning, Safety, and Information and Public Relations. At the 21st Emergency Council meeting, the Pro-Chancellor urged the appointees to serve with integrity and dedication. He also thanked the Visitor and the Minister of Education for their support of the tertiary sector. The new Director of Information and Public Relations, speaking for the team, praised the merit-based selection process and vowed to enhance the university’s standing as a leading centre of learning.

I'm curious how these new appointments will influence research output and library services at UNIZIK over the next five years?

True, those appointments should help strengthen research and library support, building capacity step by step over the coming years.

I find it odd that the council ratified all seven positions in one meeting without sharing detailed selection criteria publicly.

Sure, new officers are in place for five years, but isn't five years too long without performance checks?
