Tinubu Launches Akwanga–Maiduguri Superhighway, Pledges Nationwide Road Network

President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated Section I of the Akwanga–Kaduna–Jos segment on the 700 km Akwanga–Maiduguri Superhighway. He described the project as a key milestone of the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at linking communities, boosting trade and deepening integration across the North-Central and North-East. The President also reported progress on other corridors. Lagos’s Section I of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is substantially complete, while Ogun’s Section II stands at 60 percent. On the Sokoto–Badagry route, completion rates range from 18 percent in Ogun to 60 percent in Kebbi, with mobilisation underway in Oyo. Tinubu directed the Works Ministry to secure adequate setbacks for future expansion, tolling systems and maintenance. He tasked contractors to partner in youth skill development and contribute to long-term capacity building. Works Minister David Umahi praised the President’s leadership and noted that road projects in all 36 states are laying the foundation for a more connected, competitive and prosperous Nigeria.
