FEC Approves Major NYSC Overhaul: Six-Week Orientation and New Uniforms
The Federal Executive Council has approved major reforms for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). A redesigned six-week orientation programme will focus on leadership, entrepreneurship, digital skills and career specialisation. New uniforms will reflect professionalism and national pride. The one-year service duration remains unchanged but will now include skills-based assignments aligned with participants’ academic backgrounds. The NYSC call-up process will go digital, and deployment will be risk-sensitive to enhance corps members’ safety. Leadership of the scheme will shift from military to civilian management while the military continues to provide security support. Additional measures include a national grading and certification system for camps and a new graduation ceremony to replace the traditional passing-out parade. The Attorney-General has been directed to amend the NYSC Act and its regulations, paving the way for immediate implementation of these reforms.
