Lagosians Praise Tinubu’s Bridge Upgrades, Call for Police Protection of Onikan Railings

Lagosians Praise Tinubu’s Bridge Upgrades, Call for Police Protection of Onikan Railings

Daily commuters on Third Mainland, Okesuna and Onikan bridges have lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for recent infrastructure works in Lagos. In his first three years, Mr. Tinubu’s administration installed solar-powered streetlights, resurfaced major roads and replaced vandalized railings on key crossings. Residents told a national news outlet these changes have improved the city’s appearance and helped deter crime after dark. They are now urging Mr. Tinubu to direct the Inspector General of Police to station officers nightly from divisions at Lion Building, Onikan, Ikoyi and Dolphin Estate. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also received praise for advancing the blue and red rail lines and working with the President to restore Lagos’s long-lost glory. Commuters say these combined efforts make driving through CMS and Apongbon feel like European expressways.

I'm not convinced solar lights alone will deter vandals on Onikan railings; community engagement might be more effective than just policing.
