1 / 3

Former Super Eagles forward Osaze Odemwingie has defended Victor Osimhen’s reaction during Galatasaray’s 2-1 pre-season defeat to Villarreal. Osimhen, who scored Galatasaray’s equaliser, clashed with Villarreal defender Santiago Mouriño in the 37th minute after a physical challenge inside the box. The Nigerian striker removed his protective mask and shoved Mouriño before teammates stepped in. Both players received yellow cards. Villarreal coach Iñigo Pérez accused Osimhen of attacking his player, but Odemwingie said he understood the striker’s frustration. Speaking on Brila FM, he noted that unnecessary physical provocation can be especially irritating in a friendly match. No further disciplinary action was taken after the referee intervened.

Do you think pre-season clashes should be judged differently when the game is already physical?

Agreed. Friendlies still need context; a tough contest should not automatically define a player's attitude.

Defending his reaction is fair, but players still need to avoid letting confrontations overshadow their performance.
