Court Awards Realty Firm ₦4m Over EFCC Account Freeze
The FCT High Court has ruled that the EFCC unlawfully kept Homadil Realty Limited’s Zenith Bank account under a Post No Debit restriction without first obtaining a court order. In a judgment delivered on April 23, 2026, Justice M. A. Hassan held that the EFCC could impose an initial restriction during an investigation, but any extension required judicial approval. The court found that the commission repeatedly directed the bank to maintain the freeze without that approval. The court awarded Homadil Realty ₦2 million in damages against the EFCC for abuse of power and another ₦2 million against Zenith Bank for enforcing the directives. Justice Hassan said the action violated the company’s constitutional property rights and stressed that agencies must operate within the law.
