Atiku Calls for Independent Probe as PFIPC Scandal Exposes ₦6.44bn ‘Ghost’ World Cup Fund
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged a transparent, independent investigation into the PFIPC scandal, arguing that the arrest of its self-styled Director-General is not enough to uncover how the organisation operated at the highest levels of government. He also questioned a ₦6.44 billion budget item for a “Special Presidential Support Group” for 2026 World Cup qualifiers, noting Nigeria had already been eliminated from the race months before the budget was passed. He wants to know who approved the allocation and what it was meant to achieve. Atiku appealed to the National Assembly to form a bipartisan panel and called on the Bar Association, civil society and other stakeholders to back a probe that will restore public confidence in the budgeting process.
