After Oriire School Attacks, Afenifere Warns Yorubaland Is Under Siege
Last Friday, gunmen on motorbikes attacked three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. Afenifere declared that Yorubaland is now under siege and urged urgent action to end these terror strikes. Pa Reuben Fasoranti, who celebrated his 100th birthday that week, expressed deep sympathy for the victims and called for an immediate halt to the security crisis. He welcomed the quick visit by the Inspector General of Police and the launch of the new Violence Crime Response Unit in Ibadan. The group recounted a series of recent attacks across the South-West, including kidnappings in Ijebu Ode and Ibadan, raids on churches in Ekiti, assaults on police camps in Kwara, and bandit notices in Oriire communities. Afenifere appealed to the governors of Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Lagos and Oyo to fully implement measures like Amotekun patrols, CCTV hubs and surveillance aircraft. The group stressed that protecting Yorubaland must be their top priority.
