Questions Raised Over ₦34.4bn UCH Ibadan Budget Allocations for Roads and Classrooms
A review of the 2026 federal budget has raised questions about more than ₦34.4 billion allocated to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for projects including roads, classrooms, solar streetlights and transformers. The concern is not only whether the projects are legitimate, but how they were included in the budget, where they will be executed and why they are being funded through a tertiary hospital. UCH's procurement programme reportedly contains 32 project lots, yet only two are said to have clearly identified locations. Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, is being asked to clarify whether the projects were proposed by UCH or the Ministry of Health, whether any were added during legislative consideration, and who sponsored them. Nigerians also deserve the exact project locations, beneficiaries and justification for funding non-health infrastructure through the hospital. Public funds should be backed by clear project details, proper oversight and value for money. If these allocations are properly justified, the relevant authorities should publish the full details for public scrutiny.
