Governors Propose ₦100,000 Minimum Wage Amid Rising Living Costs
The Nigeria Governors Forum has put forward a proposal to raise the national minimum wage to ₦100,000 per month. They say this is needed to help workers cope with rising food prices and inflation. The NGF chairman, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, explained that state governments are in talks with the Federal Government and labour unions. They want an agreement that balances fair pay for workers with sustainable government budgets. Currently, the statutory minimum wage is ₦70,000, though some states already pay more. The Nigeria Labour Congress continues to push for a living wage that truly meets basic household needs.
