Ex-Rep Aliyu Gebi Arrested Over Alleged False Security Reports to Foreign Embassies

Aliyu Gebi, a former lawmaker and security consultant, was arrested by the State Security Service on April 3. He faces allegations of sharing false intelligence with foreign embassies in Nigeria. Reports say his misleading brief prompted Lufthansa to cancel flights and nearly grounded British Airways. The United States issued a travel advisory warning of armed robbery, kidnapping and banditry in several states. The federal government urged foreign partners to update their assessments and highlighted progress in national security. Gebi has since been granted bail but continues to report daily to SSS headquarters while investigations continue. Gebi served in the 7th House of Representatives and later advised the Ministries of Interior and Defence. Observers say he may soon face formal charges.
