The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, recently hosted a delegation from the University of Lagos Department of Geosciences at the command headquarters in Abeokuta. The visit, confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, brought together lecturers and students on a geological fieldwork excursion. Professor Akinmosin Adewale praised the command’s commitment to internal security and community policing. He stressed that direct engagement with security institutions is vital in instilling civic responsibility and patriotism among young scholars. In his address, CP Ojajuni encouraged students to focus on their studies and avoid social vices such as cultism, drug abuse and examination malpractice. He highlighted integrity, hard work and cooperation between academic and security agencies as key to building a safer society. Senior officers including DCP Ibrahim Abdul, DCP Gbenga Adeoye and ACP Akinmoladun Olu Moore joined the interactive session on responsible citizenship. Student representative Adeniyi Oluwatobi thanked the police team for their mentorship and warm reception.

The CP's ceremony for the delegation of lecturers and students seemed warm, but I remain cautious about its impact on sustained campus safety improvements.

Forming regular safety patrol groups with lecturers and student volunteers can help translate the CP's community safety advice into everyday campus practice.
