Delta Police Arrest Four Suspected Phone Thieves, Recover Nine New Devices

Delta Police Arrest Four Suspected Phone Thieves, Recover Nine New Devices — 1 of 3
1 / 3

The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a phone-theft syndicate in Asaba and recovered nine new Android phones. Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe said the arrests followed reports of phones being stolen from shops in Asaba and surrounding areas. Acting on intelligence, operatives reportedly traced the suspects to a hideout along St. Brigid's Road on 25 July 2026. Police said the suspects allegedly posed as customers in shops and supermarkets, covered phones with newspapers, and removed them while leaving. Investigators also allege that the phones were sent to Lagos for IMEI numbers to be altered before resale. The suspects are in custody and are expected to be charged after investigations are completed. Police say efforts are ongoing to identify the owners of the recovered phones and arrest other suspected members of the syndicate.

Arrests are important, but it is too early to treat the case as settled until the allegations are properly tested.
