Proposal to Ban Party Defection Within One Year of Elections

I propose banning registered party members from defecting to another party within one calendar year before or during an electoral cycle. Members expelled or suspended by their party would be exempt from this rule. Similar measures already exist. New laws target large cash movements outside digital networks after politicians like Giringori were caught moving embezzled funds. Electoral amendments also curb candidates who jump parties after losing primaries. I urge lawmakers to include this anti-defection provision in the Electoral Act to safeguard our democratic process.

I'm curious: what mechanisms will ensure enforcement of this one-year defection ban without infringing on individual political rights?

True, a clear legal framework and independent electoral tribunal fit ensure this ban works without trampling rights.

I totally get your concern, ensuring it respects rights while enforcing needs clear oversight and transparent appeal process.

It's interesting that similar measures exist in other countries, yet we still see defections driven by personal ambition and cash incentives.

That rule might just drive secret defection pacts before the one-year mark, creating more loopholes for insiders to exploit.

Parties could set up clear timelines and public registries of membership changes to improve transparency and discourage last-minute switching.
