OSOPADEC Raises Alarm Over Climate Threat to Ondo’s Coastal Communities

OSOPADEC Raises Alarm Over Climate Threat to Ondo’s Coastal Communities — 1 of 4
1 / 4

During World Environment Day in Aiyetoro, OSOPADEC chairman Prince Olabiyi Poroye highlighted the growing threats facing Ondo State’s coastal settlements. He warned that relentless sea incursions and erosion have destroyed homes, schools and vital infrastructure. He also named other vulnerable towns such as Awoye, Gbagira and Mese. Poroye stressed that the loss of biodiversity and displacement of residents demand immediate, coordinated action from government bodies, development partners and the international community. He urged stronger investments in shoreline protection, environmental restoration and climate-resilient infrastructure. While commending the state government’s efforts, he insisted that awareness campaigns must give way to concrete interventions. “We must reclaim hope and build resilience now,” he declared. The event united officials, environmental experts and community leaders in calls for urgent measures to safeguard Ondo’s riverine communities and preserve their future.
