17 Federal Reps Defect from ADC to NDC Citing Internal Party Crises
Seventeen members of the House of Representatives have formally left the African Democratic Congress to join the Nigerian Democratic Congress. Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu announced the defections on the floor of the Green Chamber during Tuesday’s plenary session. The lawmakers attributed their switch to “unresolved crises” within the ADC. Those who defected include Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah and Lilian Orogbu, among others. This shift is part of a broader political realignment linked to ongoing tensions in the ADC. Former presidential candidate Peter Obi and ex-Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso also recently aligned with the NDC ahead of the 2027 elections. In a statement, Obi said his move followed “deep reflection” on the nation’s needs and a desire to reduce internal distractions. He and Kwankwaso urged supporters to prioritise national development and unity in the new political arrangement.
