Lagos Launches ₦1trn Produce for Lagos Programme and State Wealth Fund

Lagos Launches ₦1trn Produce for Lagos Programme and State Wealth Fund

The Lagos State Government has announced two major financial initiatives to boost economic resilience and ensure food security. First, a Lagos Wealth Fund Bill is being finalised to institutionalise long-term savings and strategic investments. The fund will act as a stabilisation buffer against economic shocks and help future generations inherit assets, not liabilities. Second, the ₦1 trillion Produce for Lagos programme aims to achieve 40% food self-sufficiency by using 30,000 hectares within the state and partnering on 500,000 hectares up-country with other states and the Federal Government. Both plans form part of a broader strategy for sustainable growth.

Creating a wealth fund sounds promising, but previous state initiatives have struggled with transparency and timely disbursement of resources.

Partner with local farmers' cooperatives and financial experts to develop transparent reporting tools and periodic impact assessments for both initiatives.
