Lagos Shuts Access Bank Oniru Over Failed Wastewater Treatment
Following a whistleblower tip, I directed the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office to inspect the Access Bank building at Oniru, Victoria Island. We found the onsite treatment plant non-functional. Untreated effluent was entering the public drainage and harming the environment. Our team was initially denied access. Security personnel resisted sealing the faulty system and even attacked our officers. We have collected effluent samples and tests confirmed contamination. We will seek a court order to arrest and prosecute those who assaulted our officials. Tonight, reinforced enforcement teams will return to seal the facility under state environmental laws. There will be no sacred cows in upholding these regulations.
